The Ins and Outs of Home Excavation an Interview with Heather Eastman of Eastman's Landscaping and Excavation

By Heather Eastman

Tell us a little bit about your company and its foundation.

Eastman's Landscaping and Excavation has been in business for over 11 years. After providing excavation services to other companies, Shawn Eastman chose to live the American Dream and be a small business owner himself. Since that time, he has grown his business, always paid attention to detail, doing the job right, never with any short cuts that other business may take to complete the job cheaper.

What are a few reason why homeowners would need home excavation?

We offer many services to homeowners. Whether you are thinking about a new home or addition, or needing a septic system, we can help with well-maintained equipment to get your job done. Over the years we have specialized in completing new and replacement septic systems, and associated pipe and distribution box repairs. We do significant amounts of driveway installations and repairs too. Don't forget to think of Eastman's Landscaping and Excavating, when the rain won't stop the water from seeping into your home.

Please walk our readers through the general steps required to excavate land in preparation for a house:

We also offer services for designing and installing beautiful landscape and hardscapes. You work hard for your money and take pride in your home, why not have a beautiful backyard that you can relax in and take pride in by sharing with friends. For those fortunate to have fields around your home, we offer field mowing services.

How long does a typical excavation take?

As you can see, some jobs are very small and some include it all. Depending on the what is needing to be complete our jobs can be anywhere from ½ a day for a repair to 2-3 weeks for a new home construction that includes driveway construction, digging for foundation, installation of septic system and drainage, and landscaping/hardscaping/hydroseeding.

What is a common issue you face when excavating land and how can they be avoided?

One common issue that we encounter is that customers do not see what is in the ground, and will want the cheapest price possible. In order to achieve this, many contractors will skimp on the quality and may provide materials that will only last a short while. The customer should always question their contractors, making sure that they will complete the job that has been requested of them. Beware of the price that is significantly different from the other estimates as there is probably a very good reason why.
