Sunflower Natural Foods Proves That Mother Nature Knows Best

By Allison Wilson

Sunflower Natural Foods has been providing organic food and natural health therapies to the Lakes Region for more than 30 years. It's more than a grocery store. It's a resource for Laconia locals wishing to learn more about healthy living, special diets like vegan and gluten-free, natural supplements and herbal remedies, environmental consciousness and social responsibility.

"Sunflower makes exploring healthy options easier by providing a knowledgeable staff that is willing to work with you to find the right foods and supplements for your lifestyle," says Julia Marchand, Social Media Manager for Sunflower. "We understand that people are busy and that money can be tight, so we pride ourselves on providing plenty of easy-to-digest information and on keeping our prices as low as possible."

The benefits of eating organically are plentiful for both consumers and the environment. Because USDA organic certification standards are rigorous and thorough, anything marked with their seal will be free from pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, or any other potentially harmful substances that could damage your health.

Organic food also cannot be treated with synthetic fertilizers or irradiation and cannot contain any Genetically Modified Organisms. These standards ensure that the consumer is able to eat clean foods. And because the soil and water isn't polluted with chemicals during the cultivation, they also support a healthier environment ready to grow another crop of nutritious foods. This is why Sunflower values organic agriculture and working with Fair Trade organizations and B Corporations.

"Fad diets come and go, and some may have their merits, but we believe that Mother Nature knows best when it comes to feeding our bodies," Marchand says. "By eating a variety of unprocessed, organically grown foods, people can offer their bodies the nutrition it needs while limiting their exposure to chemicals and pesticides."

Marchand adds that exercising regularly and limiting stress are also keys to a healthy lifestyle. Sunflower stocks a variety of helpful books and relaxation tools. It also carries carefully selected supplements from reputable third-party certified companies, many of which are sourced from organic foods so that the body can recognize and easily process the nutrients.

Additionally, Sunflower supports the health of the Laconia economy by working with local business owners and farmers.

"We carry more than 100 locally made or grown products from local organic farms, local coffee roasters, bread bakers and soap makers," Marchand says. "We also have a gift section supporting Fair Trade and B Corporation certified companies who prioritize people and the planet above profit. We are proud to offer handmade earth-friendly home décor, jewelry, greeting cards and other beautiful gift pieces which support other cultures worldwide as well as independent artists. We also offer free gift wrapping with eco-friendly wrapping materials."

Sunflower Natural Foods is located at 390 S. Main Street. Hours are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
