Saco River Camping Area: Escape to the Great Outdoors

By Allison Wilson

There's no place like the White Mountains. With its peaceful scenery, hikes easily tailored to any expertise level, and plenty of biking, climbing, swimming, paddling and tubing, the Mount Washington Valley is a great vacation destination for anyone looking for breathtaking views and outdoor adventure.

"If you love nature and the outdoors this is the place to be," says Keith Wolters, Owner of Saco River Camping Area in North Conway. "Picturesque views can be found throughout each season from the mountains overlooking the valley. Not to mention, you are just a short distance to many great restaurants and loads of tax free shopping."

Wolters says the Saco River Camping Area welcomes thousands of people from New Hampshire every season. His camping area draws people from all over the world - as far as Europe, the Middle East, and Asia - to see Mount Washington, Lake Winnipesauke, the area's covered bridges, and North Conway Scenic Railroad. It's often a family affair.

"We primarily see families at our campground and this often includes multiple generations from the same family," Wolters says. "It's not unusual to have campers from grandchildren to grandparents, cousins and even second cousins all here at the same time. It's a great feeling to know that camping brings so many families together."

Canoeing, kayaking, and tubing are among the Saco River Camping Area visitors' favorite activities during the summer months and are quite often sold out. Guests also enjoy Fun Cycles (three-wheel bikes), hay rides, and custom-built shopping cart rides. After a long day of play, campers can relax by a fire and get to know their neighbors in the great outdoors. Wolters believes that camping offers a unique way to experience New Hampshire's famous outdoors.

"Camping is a large and diverse industry with many different accomodation options suited to appeal to each unique camper's unique needs," Wolters says. "We offer something for everyone! Whether a guest is looking for a home for their RV, a traditional tent site, or deluxe cabin - which offer features that rival many hotel rooms - campgrounds can truly provide it all. Campgrounds also offer a unique social setting which is far more engaging than hotel stays. It's common to see entire families playing a game of whiffle ball, enjoying a wagon ride or gathered around the campfire for hours telling one great story after another. It's amazing when your home is in the outdoors just how many people you meet. Many campers have met some of their best friends at a campground."

Saco River Camping Area is located at 1550 White Mountain Highway (Route 16) in North Conway. For reservations or more information call 603-356-3360.
