Rockingham Nutrition & Meals on Wheels Helps Seniors Lead Independent Lives

By Elisha Neubauer

For many elderly folks, living independently is a goal that seems unattainable when health or age restricts their driving ability. That's where Rockingham Nutrition & Meals on Wheels steps in.

Rockingham Nutrition & Meals on Wheels is an organization which provides services aimed at helping senior citizens to continue living an independent lifestyle. They ease the burden of shopping and preparing meals for the seniors, providing a well balanced meal and checking on them daily.

The company's main service is to provide hot meals, ready to eat, Monday through Friday each week. They also provide additional meals for nighttime meals and frozen meals for weekends. "We also offer diabetic, cardiac, ground, and pureed alternatives for clients with dietary restrictions," says Amy Head, CFI-Specialist for Rockingham Nutrition & Meals on Wheels.

Another service offered by the organization is transportation. For those in the Exeter, Plaistow and Raymond areas, there is a senior shuttle available as well as a shuttle service in the works for the Hampton/ Seabrook area. The transportation services include trips to meal sites for activities and lunch as well as trips to local medical appointments and group shopping trips.

One of the most impressive features of RNMOW is the fact that they do not have a wait list. They are highly dedicated to helping the senior citizens of the area remain in their homes, while staying healthy and independent. "We deliver a warm meal around lunchtime Monday-Friday or seniors are welcome at any of our congregate dining sites throughout Rockingham County," explains Head.

These sites can be found in Derry, Exeter, Hampton, Londonderry, Newmarket, Plaistow, Portsmouth, Raymond, Salem, Seabrook, and Windham. "We will soon have a site in Epping," she says.

The company operates on three main guiding principles, which influence everything they do throughout their daily operations. These principles include "Integrity & Dependability you can count on", "A Meal, Personal Contact, and Peace of Mind", and "Nourishing the Body and Soul." The company is about nourishing the entire person and they focus on ways to enrich the body as well as the soul with personal contact and social behaviors. They provide meals as well as peace of mind to distant or busy family members of the client, allowing them to relax knowing someone is keeping an eye out for those slight changes or areas of concern.

"If anyone is in need of our services please contact our administrative office at (603) 679-2201," declares Head. For more information on RNMOW or its programs, visit their website at
