The Peddler's Daughter is Nashua's Luckiest Pub

By Courtney Clark

Nashua is a wee bit lucky to have the Peddler's Daughter in its midst. An Irish restaurant and pub, Peddler's is known not only for being the best in the area, but also for being authentic. Guests who visit can expect a traditional, high-quality Irish fare and atmosphere.

The Peddler's Daughter has been in Nashua for ten years. Michael and Mags Conneely, the owners, grew up in the restaurant industry and are passionate about hospitality. The Conneelys are Irish, as well, which is why they strive for an authentic environment. Most American diners would associate being Irish with a tendency to focus on alcohol; however, "an Irish pub is not about alcohol." Instead, it's "about having a great place to socialize" and have a good time.

Mr. Conneely comments that "every Irish pub should be a welcoming place." To build a lively, environment, Peddler's hosts live music every Friday and Saturday. Bands play from 9:30PM to 1:00AM so guests can have a backdrop to the entire night. Local bands such as Olde Salt, Colm O'Brien, and Pop Farmers frequent the pub.

Of course, an Irish pub would not be complete without Irish food. According to the website, the fare is described as "classic comfort food" that "nourishes the body and the soul." Diners will find British influences as well as flexible entrees for picky eaters, such as the flatbread pizza. Flatbreads come with pulled pork, buffalo chicken, or with a balsamic reduction for a variety of preferences. Nachos get an Irish spin with kettle chips, cheddar, apple wood smoked bacon, and tomatoes. Guests are also encouraged to try the popular Scotch Egg appetizer: a hard-boiled egg wrapped in Irish sausage, rolled in panko crumbs, and fried.

The Conneelys realize that corned beef, though not a typical Irish dish, is a staple for Irish Americans. Therefore, corned beef is a major must on the menu. Several menu items feature the beef, such as the Corned Beef Sandwich: slow-cooked corned beef served with Big Eye Swiss cheese and two types of mustards. The menu would also be lacking without a Guinness-featured entrée. The Guinness Burger is a delicious mix of Guinness Blue Cheese Pate, bacon, and an onion ring.

Although Irish pubs care more about socializing than alcohol, the Peddler's Daughter knows how to serve up a good time with a wide bar selection. Alongside extensive liquor options, diners can choose from several draft, bottle, and canned beers. Beer aficionados can try seasonal brews, IPAs, and the typical light beers. The pub even offers a wide selection of Irish Whiskeys, such as Tullamore Dew and John Powers.

With traditional and reinvented menu items, the Peddler's Daughter is an authentic and fun Irish environment. Guests are sure to enjoy their time here, from the live music to the themed décor. Delicious food, a wide drink selection, and a social atmosphere will have all patrons feeling the luck of the Irish.
