Meet Alan and Brianne, Your Hampton Falls Experts in Lighting

By Kelly Church

Since the 1970s, Lighting By The Sea has been offering home lighting options to Hampton, New Hampshire. Owners Alan and Brianne Dickinson sold the business in 2007 and took five years off before ultimately reopening and renovating Lighting By The Sea in the same location in 2012. Now, the couple's daughter, Kate Dickinson, is a partner in the business. The company has "New Hampshire's finest selection of lighting, lamps and lamp shades" for both indoor and outdoor spaces.

"We are here to guide the homeowner through the selection process," Kate says. "Whether a customer is building a new home or needs a new lampshade to update a lamp. We can layout the lighting for a new house or renovation. We keep the items we display in stock; as we say: 'See it. Touch it. Take it Home.'"

Lighting By The Sea's showroom floor resembles a model home, covered in all types of lighting options. Kate says the showroom is designed to be very customer friendly, so customers can easily maneuver through floor without feeling overwhelmed. Lighting By The Sea even offers a digital version of their showroom floor. Using Google Maps, anybody can walk through the showroom on the Lighting By The Sea website.

For advice on lighting, the company's website is also a great source. With a small blog housed on their website, they address new trends in lighting and how to upgrade lighting in certain areas of your home, including the bathroom and outside. The Dickinson family is another great resource for customer's who have questions about the best way to light their home. When it comes to outdoor lighting, Kate offers a general tip for all customers: keep things understated.

"Subtle lighting is the best outdoors," Kate, who is a third generation lighting salesperson, says. "Use a warm color range: 2,700-3,000 Kelvin temperature. Our handmade in New England copper and brass and onion style lanterns weather very well and stand up to harsh ocean conditions, looking good for years. Proper sizing of the lantern is critical to the finished appearance of a home; exterior lanterns look larger in the lighting showroom than they will in a home."

Lighting By The Sea posts lighting deals on their website for customers who want to keep an eye out for a discount. They also notify customers of sales via email. For additional information on how to light a specific room in your house, visit the tips and advice section on their website.
