Holistic Hair for Your Green Lifestyle At Pin Up Hair Salon

By Elisha Neubauer

It's often said that when a woman, or a man, finds the perfect hair stylist, they'll never let anyone touch their hair again. Generally, this is because finding a stylist, or a salon, which meets your needs and expectations while actually grasping what you want as a client is a struggle. For those looking for the perfect cut and color, while still maintaining a eco-friendly lifestyle, that struggle can be almost impossible.

It's for this reason that Alex Tuley, Owner and Lead Stylist of Pin Up Hair Salon, opted to open her eco-friendly salon in Dover. Tuley is a level three stylist, who has been shaking up the industry since 2008. She's learned how to tame and style hair with the use of only the greenest, cleanest products on the market and she's taken that talent to the doors of her very own salon.

What does that mean for clients? Pin Up Hair Salon is dedicated to only using organic, low-toxin products.

"We use only ammonia free color and lighteners, and carry products that are free of known harmful chemicals and synthetic fragrances," Tuley said. "Our salon environment is bright, relaxed, and comfortable."

Relaxed is right, as clients are invited to enjoy a cup of warm, organic tea and experience a salon visit that is free of any harsh smells, tingling, or skin irritations. In addition to using low toxin products, Pin Up Hair Salon commits to their green ambiance by recycling and composting their waste, producing less than one bag of garbage for the entire shop per week.

"We want our clients to feel good about spending their time and hard earned money in a business that thinks about their health and the health of our environment," Tuley said.

Despite the use of only low toxin, green products, the salon still manages to offer many of the same treatments and services of a regular salon. This includes haircuts, custom color, and retexturizing, facial waxing, wedding/occasional styling and makeup. To encourage customers to reuse and recycle their own products, the salon currently offers a discount on shampoos and conditioners for refills.

To maintain the high standards Tuley has set for the salon, each of her stylists are required to think outside of the box when it comes to their customers' experience. They frequently attend continuing education classes in order to keep up on the latest trends, tools, tips, and styles and they are truly dedicated to providing only the healthiest skin and hair possible through the use holistic materials and products.

"When entering Pin Up you can expect a warm welcome, filtered water, color and lightener free of harsh smells, custom cuts and color tailored to your needs and lifestyle, extended consultations and an educated staff to help you achieve your hair goals," Tuley said.
