From Aerial Barre to Yoga Flow, Barre Chic Has the Workout for You

By Marina Jokic

Barre classes are rooted in the fitness methods of Pilates, dance, and yoga, borrowing some of the most interesting and engaging elements from each. Weaving choreographed moves into an energizing and targeted workout, Barre tones the body with minimal equipment and helps shed pounds. Utilizing mini-balls, small hand weights, and the ballet barre, the movements during workouts at Barre Chic in Salem appear quite small and measured, but an average workout burns about 500 calories. Typically, the one-hour workout begins with a warm-up, free-weight exercises, and push-ups, moving on to isometric leg work and abdominal presses.

Some popular classes include the Barre Tone, the Cardio Blast and Barre Blast, and the aerial modalities. With aerial Barre, you will use a silk hammock to work every muscle in the body. This class is similar to the Barre classes, but the introduction of the aerial hammock results in increased intensity.

Owner of Barre Chic Amy Price offers her students a variety of classes rather than concentrating on one style of Barre as many other studios tend to do. In fact, Barre Chic is the only studio in the area to teach aerial fitness classes include aerial Barre, yoga, and Pilates.

"Most Barre studios teach a specific style of Barre, [and] as a result, every class follows the same layout which can lead to a plateau in your fitness journey," Price said. "Our teachers have certifications in different styles of Barre, so you'll never have the same workout twice."

Getting in shape at Barre Chic doesn't feel like a chore. The workouts can be modified to fit a student's physical needs and preferences, and to ensure that they are getting the most out of their time.

"Our classes are designed to empower women while they do something positive for their bodies," Price said. "Here at Barre Chic, we have fun and our members are encouraged to mix up their workout, which keeps their bodies guessing."

Injecting some variety into a regular exercise routine is a foolproof way to bring the body out of its comfort zone, and to keep things interesting. At Barre Chic, the diversified classes are a great way to avoid losing interest in any one routine. Trainers vary their routines almost on a daily basis, ensuring that their students don't have to repeat the same exercise for very long.

"This is incredibly efficient when trying to get in shape whether that means losing weight, toning up or just feeling more confident and healthy in your own body," Price said.

At Barre Chic, you can also avail yourself of their professional dietician on staff, Annemarie Pease, who is available for nutritional consultations. She employs a simple approach to helping members make healthier choices when it comes to their food. Proper nutrition paired with targeted Barre training has given measurable results for so many of Price's students.

When you are planning your visit, make sure to leave some time to their complimentary coffee and tea, and spend some time relaxing in Barre Chic's lounge room.

"Our studio also has the most adorable mascot?Jackson is our little Brussels griffon mix, and he enjoys greeting our members before and after classes," Price said.
