Fields of Ambrosia's Personal Care Products Get A Helping Hand From Mother Nature

By Pamela Sosnowski

Most modern cosmetics and body care products are teeming with artificial ingredients that are potentially harmful to us, such as parabens, petroleum, artificial fragrances, and other chemicals. It was a concern about these ingredients that inspired entrepreneur Deborah Jasien to come up with a safer alternative, and in 2001 she launched Fields of Ambrosia, a personal care and makeup company that uses as many natural ingredients in its products as possible.

"Fields of Ambrosia was developed in response to a search for cleansing, nourishing and therapeutic skin and body care products?beneficial to the body and earth friendly," she explains. "In researching natural soap making and aromatherapy, I recognized that many of the ingredients for creating these items could be found in the gardens, orchards and fields around my home at Intervale Farm."

Those ingredients include pure essential oils, natural plant and vegetable-based oils, distilled spring water, vitamins C & E, fruit and flower extracts, and Atlantic sea salts. Jasien discloses that her company does use a bare minimum of parabens in her lotion and creams to prevent bacterial growth, but that all items are free from petroleum and animal derivatives. All are handmade and packaged in North Conway and even the packaging is assembled using recycled glass, plastic, paper, and cork.

On their website and in their store, customers can purchase everything from bath and body products to facial care sets. While most of the items are aimed at women, men are not immune to the benefits of using natural skin care products. The Renaissance Man line caters specifically to male needs, and includes shaving oils, beard oils, hand cream, deodorant, and more.

Fields of Ambrosia also carries a mineral makeup line called COLOR that was developed by Jasien's niece, Emily Kump. They are free of irritants, preservatives, and toxins and include tinted moisturizers, foundations, blushes, lipsticks, eye makeup, and more.

Jasien says that while her products benefit all ages, they are especially nourishing for mature customers or those with damaged skin. "When an ingredient is made with chemicals, it actually clogs your pores," she explains. "Your skin loses its natural ability to expel toxins, which leads to increased acne and signs of aging. When you use natural products like ours regularly, not only are you beautifying your skin, but you're also absorbing antioxidants, enhancing your skin's UV resistance, and stimulating your immune system, too."

The Fields of Ambrosia storefront is open seven days a week and of course, orders may be placed online at any time. The website also offers a newsletter that announces coupons, discounts, and product updates to its subscribers, making it even easier for one to make the switch to more natural body care products.
