Experiencing Hampton Beach at the Blue Jay Motel

By Marina Jokic

Blue Jay Motel in Hampton, New Hampshire is situated in one of the most popular summer locales in the Northeast. Nestled conveniently within walking distance of Hampton Beach, Blue Jay becomes quite the popular spot during summer months. Owners Mary La Montagne and Rose Messina discuss the customer-centered approach that has made their business successful.

"The owners and staff of the BJ Motel strongly believe in service with hospitality," says Messina. Service on its own does not provide distinction, but service rendered with care makes all the difference in any industry, but most of all in the hotel business. To that end, Messina and La Montagne strive to meet and exceed the needs of their guests by providing amenities you wouldn't usually see at a motel?daily room service, mini fridge, complimentary Keurig coffee, soft Sealy Posturpedic beds, and free Wi-Fi.

Some of the outdoor amenities at the Blue Jay Motel include an upper deck seating parties of sixty-five and equipped with a skylight and party lighting, picnic tables and five grills, an outdoor shower for beach goers, and a private clothesline.

These perks are designed to make your stay as comfortable and convenient as possible, say La Montagne and Messina, who go the extra mile for guests. Messina and La Montagne believe that it's the fine details that make the difference. Recently, the Blue Jay Motel was awarded a Special Recognition Award by the Hampton Area Chamber of Commerce, a coveted distinction.

"It's the quality by which we receive and treat each guest that sets the Blue Jay Motel apart from most others," stresses Messina. The owners and staff's warm, friendly and generous treatment of each guest is the reason for their continued success and growing clientele. The hotel business can be unforgiving, to say the least. The Blue Jay Motel has learned how to navigate this challenging business landscape, and to put the customer first. Being in a prime location helps tremendously of course.

Besides its famous beach--which boasts the number one rating in cleanest water by the Surfrider Foundation as well as the Sierra Club's cleanest beach award, Hampton has all kinds of fun family activities. Shops, restaurants, live music, bars, sand sculptures, and sports tournaments are just some of the things offered.

In mid-June, for example, the Master the Sand Sculpting competition is the main draw, and it overlooks the catamaran regatta along the shoreline. It's an excellent way to spend the day, whether you are exploring solo, with your partner, or with the entire family.

The Spike U Volleyball Tournament is another popular event for kids, and takes place in June, July, and August. The closing of the season in August is marked by five days of the Children's Festival, which ends with an elaborate costume parade and the Seafood Festival, which features live entertainment and delicious seafood.
