Everything You Need to Know about Decorative Pavers/Paving: An Interview with Bob Webber Jr. of TJCO Hardscape Services

By Bob Webber Jr.

Please tell us a little bit about your company and the services you offer.

My company TJCO, was started in 2011 after working for almost 10 years at Triad Associates in Haverhill, MA. We still work very closely with Triad and utilize their services for the installation of decorative poured aggregate products. We also work very closely with Serenity Landscaping and Property Services of Danvers, MA. Working with these two companies allows us to offer the customer a full start to finish project. The services we offer range from re-hab (pressure washing, re-sanding, repairs, deco-sealing) to new jobs that have us doing the whole project from site prep to landscaping installation.

Please discuss on the concept of "decorative paving."

Decorative paving is the utilization of a cast type concrete paver that comes in a wide variety of shapes, styles, textures and colors to meet the homeowners varying needs. These pavers offer a choice from the standard pavement for driveways and walkways and concrete for pool decks and patios.

What are the advantages people will get from decorative paving?

The advantages of getting decorative or concrete pavers are they are cost effective and are longer lasting. They also add a much higher curb appeal value in today's neighborhoods. Maintenance is easier and while the initial cost may be a little higher than pavement or regular concrete the life span of the product in the end makes it a much better value.

How do homeowners maintain their pavers?

While some homeowners will attempt to do a self-rehab they usually realize in the end it is easier to call a company such as TJCO to do the project for them. We have all the right cleaners, equipment and knowledge to do the job right. We are Techni-Seal certified installers and applicators and the end results show. A lot of times we will talk customers into actually re-habbing an existing job for roughly a quarter the cost of a new install, there-by freeing up the capital for a wish list project such an outdoor fire-pit feature.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to install decorative paving but with a limited budget?

As easy as the big box stores make it look do not attempt to do the job yourself. Hire a company that has all the right equipment and certifications. There is a big difference between the materials that reputable contractors use and the materials sold in the big box stores. TJCO only uses Techo-Bloc products on 100% of their installs.
