DJ Jodi Entertainment Keeps New England Dance Floors Hopping

By Pamela Sosnowski

Anyone that doesn't think women can spin records hasn't met Jodi Duston (aka DJ Jodi) and her all-female team of DJs, MCs, and merry makers. As the head of her own Dover-based DJ and events planning company, DJ Jodi Entertainment, she's been keeping New England on the dance floor for 20 years. She credits part of her success to listening closely to her clients' needs and encouraging them to be themselves at their functions.

"A lot of DJs tend to get stuck in the tradition of doing things a certain way and churn out cookie cutter weddings," she said. "I take the time to ask my clients questions about themselves, guests, vendors and musical preferences. I encourage them to do what feels right for them and not to worry about tradition and what family and friends think they 'should do'."

Duston is New Hampshire-raised and started DJing and planning events in 1994. She and her team of four other DJs love music, can read audiences' preferences, and know how to engage a crowd with enthusiasm, energy, and professionalism. Duston encourages anyone seeking their services to read each DJ's bio and select one, or the team is happy to make recommendations. No matter who they choose, clients receive a full consultation so every minute of an event goes flawlessly.

"I reassure (clients) when they hire me and throughout the planning process, that I will work with them to discuss all of the details before their event so they can kick back and relax," Duston said. "I want them to trust that I am there to carry out those details and remind them at every turn what is happening. This way they don't have to think, just have fun with their guests and soak in the joy of their big day."

Although Duston and her team specialize in weddings, they're comfortable covering any kind of event. In fact, they've donated their time and services to giving back to the local community by DJing for free at special events. This includes providing music for a nonprofit dog rescue fundraising event that had no budget to hire a DJ, and an annual AIDS walk/run in Maine. Duston's staff also plays regularly at several LBGT events throughout New England including GirlSplash in Provincetown, Massachusetts.

DJ Jodi Entertainment also provides, for an additional cost, several extras or special equipment to add some flair to any event. These include sound activated LED multi colored dance lights, a LED light bar which throws light over a larger area, custom projected images (examples include greetings and proposals), a karaoke machine, and more. Like most event planners the company also provides the ever growing popular photo booth accompanied by fun props, backdrops, and a photographer, one of two on Duston's team. Both bring combined experience shooting weddings, professional head shots, and promotional photography.

Duston's enthusiasm for her chosen profession shows, and she sincerely takes pride in her glowing customer testimonials and making sure everyone has fun while she's at the DJ stand.

"My 'job' revolves around music; what's not to love?" she said. "I am fortunate to have turned my passion for music into a full-time business. Doing what you love for work really does make a difference in your life! I want to be able to do this for as long as I can, so I gratefully put in the hard work and take a lot of pride in making sure my clients are happy."
