Chickadee Hill Cakes Makes a Sweet Start for Marriages and More

Since opening her custom cake bakery in downtown Sandown 15 years ago, Shara Hill has found that people love Chickadee Hill Cakes so much that she can only receive customers by appointment only. This is due in part to the fact that her creations are a piece of art that take time, planning, and premium ingredients to make a cake that guests will be talking about for days afterwards.

"As a small custom cake studio, we pride ourselves on our attention to detail, and treat every cake as if it were for our own family events," she said. "We feel that cake should be both a celebration centerpiece and a dessert to be remembered."

Hill has baked everything from a birthday cake for a one-year old that featured a fondant ice cream truck on top to a cake for a 40 year-old hockey fan that resembled the Stanley Cup trophy, and everything in between.

If a customer can dream it, she can create it. She's even made cakes that look exactly like ice cream cones, topped with sprinkles and a confectionary cherry on top and another in the form of a plumber's derriere, complete with "plumber's crack", which celebrated the guest of honor earning his plumbing license.

A majority of Hill's orders are for brides-to-be. Hill can create a wedding cake as unique as the couple getting hitched, and that includes topping it with a fondant version of their likeness. Edible flowers, ribbons, and more regularly weave their way around her multi-tiered creations and there's virtually no limit to what she can make a cake look like. The shop also makes custom cupcakes and cake pops for all occasions.

Customers have 10 cake batter flavors to choose from as well as nine fillings and buttercream frostings each. Besides basic vanilla and chocolate, Chickadee Hill Cakes also makes lemon ginger, peanut butter, and tiramisu flavored cake. Fillings include coconut pecan caramel and Macintosh apple. She uses the freshest and most natural ingredients to make a cake that is moist and full of flavor. Hill listens carefully to each client's request and can offer recommendations and samples for the perfect flavor combination. She can also accommodate customers on a gluten-free diet.

Clients have raved about feeling right at home in Hill's shop, the affordable pricing, and of course, the taste of their custom individualized cake. The shop is open for consultation appointments Monday through Thursday from 9 AM to 2 PM and on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays at 6 or 7 PM. The rest of Hill's time is devoted to making customers happy with her sweet as well as beautiful baked goods. She especially enjoys hearing the positive feedback from satisfied customers.

"We often get feedback from clients that our cakes are the talk of the party!" she said. "Every happy celebration starts with cake, and we love playing a part in helping generations of families celebrate life's milestones."
