Art Escape Provides Laconia with a Creative Oasis

By Paul Rowe

Art Escape's mission is to provide people of all ages and skills with a place to escape from their busy lives, relax, and create something meaningful.

"Even as a young child I always knew I wanted to own an art studio," says owner Jean Cox. "I have always loved teaching people how to create art. When I was taking a clay class in college they allowed my son (age 7) to join the class. When the class was finished he wanted to continue creating with clay and we realized that there wasn't a place in the area where children could do this. So we decided to open a clay and ceramic studio." The rest is history.

Since Art Escape's grand opening as a clay studio in 2003, it has incorporated classes in ceramics, fused glass, and tie dye t-shirts. The space was expanded in September 2014 to include a canvas studio and private party room.

"Most of our classes are designed for beginners but enjoyed by all," says Cox. "We also offer birthday parties, summer art adventure field trips, and we will even come to your location."

Art Escape offers acrylic paints for out-of-towners that can be sprayed glossy and taken home the same day. If kiln paint is your preference and you need to leave before your piece is ready, have no fear - Art Escape will carefully wrap your piece and ship it via USPS.

"We offer custom work for all those times when you just don't want to paint yourself," says Cox. "Let our talented staff, with their many years of expertise, produce a handmade piece you will love. Signature platters are our specialty."

In a town known for its Motorcycle Week, Laconia is an artistic oasis. "You can forget about everything else going on in your life and just have fun," says Cox. "The studio is also a wonderful place to hang out with friends and family."

Walk-ins, classes, and private events are currently available.
