Art 3 Gallery: New England's Premier Retail Fine Art Gallery

By Joni Taube

Why art? Art 3 Gallery, owned by art consultant Joni Taube, is not like any other art gallery. We are 2200 square feet chock-filled with a varied collection of all types of artwork. We are here to answer your questions or you can browse at your leisure. We welcome visitors to view our eclectic assortment of styles, mediums, and price points for the novice as well as the seasoned collector. Most of our artists are local and regional and we exchange work with them on a regular basis. Chosen for their artistic abilities as well as salability, the artwork should appeal to our varied client base, both corporate and residential.

"At Art 3 we don't feature individual artists," says Taube. "Rather we have themed-based shows featuring the work of many local, regional and national artists. At any time a visitor can view the artwork of at least 70 artists hanging on our walls. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. People are always amazed at how much artwork we have on hand." The gallery's current show "Color-full" will be followed by "Surf and Turf" opening July 20.

What is an art consultant? Oftentimes a client will come to the gallery with an idea of what they want. "I need something for over my fire-place." That's when an art consultant steps in. Taube starts the process by asking, "What kinds of things do you like?" She discusses representational or abstract, traditional or contemporary, color, size, and budget, but when they actually see what's available, they get more confused than ever. Joni asks a million questions about their likes and dislikes (sometimes a husband and wife will have very different ideas of what they want) and walks them through the gallery looking at lots and lots of pieces to help them narrow their choices.

One of the great things about Art 3 is that you can take home the artwork and try it out in the space yourself. Or Joni will bring everything out to your home. She looks at the art you've chosen in relation to the space to make sure the size and color complement your décor. And if the piece needs to be framed, Joni offers frame choices that work with both the art and the space. "There are many different ways to frame a piece so that it looks great in the space," says Taube. "But sometimes nothing that we have here works, so we often commission an artist to create something expressly for a client. Or we research new artists to find the perfect piece based on the client's wants."

But will it match my sofa? Clients come to the gallery for a number of reasons. The true collector buys what they love. "For instance, we have a woman who comes up from Connecticut to buy pieces that are only black and white," says Taube. "Others have specific artists that they are collecting and want to add a piece." Some clients come alone on the recommendation of their decorator or designer; some clients come with their designer or decorator; and some decorators and designers use Art 3 Gallery as a resource to find artwork on behalf of their clients.

Why is there so much artwork here at the gallery? So everyone can find something they like and that they can afford. "The more artwork you look at, the more you begin to refine your taste," says Taube. "With many corporate as well as residential clients, Art 3 has to be able to offer a variety of artwork that will suit small intimate spaces as well as corporate lobbies". A visit to the gallery reflects Taube's skills as an art consultant - each show is a cohesive exhibit showcasing as many artists and styles as possible.

Art 3 Gallery is located at 44 West Brook Street in Manchester. Open Monday through Friday from 9-4 or by appointment, the phone number is 603-668-6650. And the website is
